Chuds On MC 4 Life

Pinging…

Checking…

Survival with friends, plus a few dozen mods.

Chuds On MC 4 Life is a small, friendly Minecraft server. People build bases, go on mining trips, raid dungeons, and occasionally get eaten by something from a mod nobody read about.

The mods add better dungeons and strongholds, towns to find, a whole underground dimension, bosses, furniture, cooking, backpacks, a minimap, and recipe lookup. It still feels like Minecraft, just with more to do.

The big rule is no griefing. If you didn't build it, don't break it, change it, or take from it. That's what keeps the server worth playing on.

Rules

Six of them. They're short on purpose.

  1. 1.

    Don't grief

Don't break, change, burn, or flood anything you didn't build. That includes "jokes".

  2. 2.

    Don't steal

Other people's chests, farms, and animals are theirs. Dungeon loot is fair game, and Lootr gives everyone their own.

  3. 3.

    Be decent

No bullying, hate, or harassment. Banter is fine. If someone asks you to stop, stop.

  1. 4.

    Keep chat clean

Younger players are on here. Keep it PG and don't spam.

  2. 5.

    No cheating

No hacked clients, X-ray, or dupe glitches. Everything on this site's downloads page is allowed.

  3. 6.

    Give people room

Ask before building next to someone, and only fight players who agreed to fight.

If you break a rule, admins can warn, kick, or ban you depending on what happened. Griefing is usually a straight ban.

If you see someone breaking one, take a screenshot and tell an admin. Please don't try to get even yourself.

Live map

BlueMap renders the whole world and keeps it updated as people build. Find your base, scout for villages, or see what everyone else has been up to.

How to install and join

Written for people who've never installed a mod. Do the steps in order and you'll only have to do this once. You're setting up three things that must match the server: Minecraft Java 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.265, and the modpack.

You'll need

  • A Microsoft account that owns Minecraft Java Edition
  • A Windows PC or a Mac. Phones, tablets, consoles, and most Chromebooks can't run it.
  • 8 GB of RAM or more, and about 2 GB of free space
  • Around 20 minutes

Installing on Windows

  1. Step 1: Make sure you have Minecraft Java Edition

This server only works with the Java Edition of Minecraft. Bedrock (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, phones, tablets) can't connect.

    1. Download and install the Minecraft Launcher from minecraft.net/download.
    2. Open the launcher and sign in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft.
    3. In the list on the left, click Minecraft: Java Edition. If you see a green Play button, you're good. If it says Buy, that account doesn't own Java Edition yet.
  2. Step 2: Play Minecraft 1.21.1 once, with no mods

NeoForge builds on top of the normal 1.21.1 game files, so they need to exist first. This also creates your Minecraft folder.

    1. In the launcher, click the Installations tab at the top, then New installation.
    2. Name it something like Vanilla 1.21.1. Under Version, pick release 1.21.1. Click Create.
    3. Go back to the Play tab. Use the drop-down menu to the left of the big green button to pick your new installation, then click Play.
    4. When you reach the Minecraft title screen, click Quit Game. That's it for this step.
  3. Step 3: Install NeoForge 21.1.265

NeoForge is the mod loader: the part that lets Minecraft load mods. The server uses NeoForge, so you need it too. Regular Forge and Fabric won't work.

    1. Close the Minecraft Launcher completely.
    2. Download neoforge-21.1.265-installer.jar from the Downloads section.
    3. Open your Downloads folder and double-click the installer.
    4. A small installer window opens. Make sure Install client is selected. Leave the folder path exactly as it is (it should end in .minecraft).
    5. Click OK and wait. It downloads a bunch of files, which can take a few minutes. When it says it successfully installed, click OK.

    Double-clicking didn't open the installer?

If the file opens in WinRAR or 7-Zip, Windows asks “How do you want to open this file?”, or nothing happens, your computer needs Java to run the installer:

    1. Go to adoptium.net and download Temurin 21 for Windows (the .msi file).
    2. Run it. If you see an option called Associate .jar, turn it on. Click through to finish.
    3. Right-click the NeoForge installer, choose Open with, and pick OpenJDK Platform binary (or anything that mentions Java).
  4. Step 4: Start the NeoForge profile once

The first NeoForge launch finishes setting things up and creates the mods folder you'll need next.

    1. Open the Minecraft Launcher again.
    2. In the drop-down next to the green button, choose the new NeoForge installation (it may be called neoforge-21.1.265). Click Play.
    3. If the launcher warns you about mods or third-party content, tick the box to confirm and continue.
    4. On the title screen, look in the bottom-left corner for NeoForge and check that there's a Mods button. If so, it worked! Click Quit Game.

    Recommended: give Minecraft more memory

Modpacks need more memory (RAM) than normal Minecraft. In the launcher, go to Installations, hover over NeoForge, click the ⋯ button, then Edit → More options. In JVM arguments, change only the first part, -Xmx2G:

    • Computer with 16 GB of RAM or more: change it to -Xmx6G
    • Computer with 8 GB of RAM: change it to -Xmx4G

Click Save. Don't change anything else in that box.

  5. Step 5: Install the server modpack

Everyone on the server needs the exact same 59 mods. If yours don't match, the server will refuse to let you in.

    1. Download chuds-client-mods.zip (166 MB) from the Downloads section.
    2. Press Windows + R to open the Run box, type %APPDATA%\.minecraft and press Enter. Your Minecraft folder opens.
    3. Open the folder called mods. If it's not there, create a new folder and name it mods (all lowercase).
    4. If the mods folder already has files in it from another modpack, move them somewhere else (like a folder on your desktop) so they don't clash.
    5. Go to your Downloads folder, right-click chuds-client-mods.zip, choose Extract All…, then Extract.
    6. Open the extracted folder, select all the files inside (Ctrl + A), and drag them into the mods folder.

    Double-check this. It's the #1 mistake!

The mods folder should contain about 59 files ending in .jar, sitting directly inside it. Not a .zip file, and not another folder inside the mods folder. Minecraft can't see mods hidden in a folder.

  6. Step 6: Start NeoForge and add the server

This saves the server in your Multiplayer list so you only have to do it once.

    1. In the launcher, choose the NeoForge installation and click Play. The first modded launch can take a few minutes. If the loading bar seems stuck, give it time.
    2. On the title screen, click Multiplayer. If a warning about online play shows up, click Proceed.
    3. Click Add Server.
    4. For Server Name, type anything you like, such as Chuds On MC 4 Life.
    5. For Server Address, paste the address below (copy it with the button, then press Ctrl + V in Minecraft):
    www.chudsincorporated.online

Click Done. Remember: this is not the website address.

  7. Step 7: Join and say hi!

You made it. Time to rot with the chuds.

    1. The server appears in your list. Green signal bars mean it's online.
    2. Click it, then click Join Server. The first join can take a minute while the world loads.
    3. Press T to open chat and say hello. Then go read the rules if you haven't yet.

Optional extras Do these once you can join.

  1. Step A: Add the Derivative shader

Shaders add realistic lighting, shadows, and water. They're pretty, but they need a strong graphics card.

    1. Download derivative-main-d24.4.4.zip. Don't unzip it.
    2. Open your Minecraft folder (%APPDATA%\.minecraft) and then the shaderpacks folder. Create it if it doesn't exist.
    3. Drop the shader .zip into shaderpacks.
    4. In game, go to Options… → Video Settings… → Shader Packs…, click derivative-main-d24.4.4.zip, then Apply and Done.

    Game got slow?

Press K in game to switch shaders off and on, or pick OFF in the Shader Packs menu.

  2. Step B: Add the recommended resource packs

Resource packs change textures and animations: fancier grass, leaves, crops, skies, and mobs.

    1. Download chuds-resource-packs.zip and extract it (right-click → Extract All…). Inside are several smaller .zip files. Each one is a pack.
    2. Move those smaller .zip files into the resourcepacks folder inside your Minecraft folder. Don't unzip them.
    3. In game, go to Options… → Resource Packs…. Hover over a pack on the left and click the arrow to move it to the right. Packs higher in the right-hand list win if they change the same thing.
    4. If Minecraft says a pack was made for an older or newer version, click Yes. They usually work fine.

    Heads up

The HD packs (Default HD 128x and Patrix 32x) look great but are heavy. Turn them off if your game stutters.

Troubleshooting

Find the message you're seeing and open it for the fix. Most problems come down to the wrong version, the wrong mod loader, or mods in the wrong folder.

Wrong Minecraft version“Incompatible client! Please use 1.21.1” or “Outdated client/server”
  1. You started a different version of Minecraft. In the launcher, use the drop-down next to Play and pick the NeoForge installation, not Latest release.
  2. The NeoForge installation must be for Minecraft 1.21.1. If yours is for another version, run the NeoForge 21.1.265 installer again (step 3 of the guide).
Wrong mod loader (or no mod loader)No “Mods” button on the title screen, or it says Forge or Fabric instead of NeoForge
  1. You launched plain Minecraft or a different mod loader. Pick the NeoForge installation in the launcher and press Play.
  2. NeoForge and Forge are different things, even though the names are similar. Fabric is different too. Only NeoForge works here.
  3. Can't find the NeoForge installation? Restart the launcher. In the Installations tab, make sure the Modded checkbox is ticked. Still missing? Run the NeoForge installer again and choose Install client.
Missing or mismatched modsKicked while joining with a list of mods, “mod rejections”, or “missing/mismatched mods”
  1. Your mods don't match the server. Close Minecraft.
  2. Open your mods folder and move everything out of it (for example, to a folder on your desktop).
  3. Download the newest modpack again, extract it, and put all 59 .jar files directly into mods. No folders inside, no extra mods.
  4. If the error names a mod you already have, the modpack has probably been updated. Grab the latest download.
The server is offline or won't connect“Can't connect to server”, “Connection timed out”, or “Unknown host”
  1. Check the live status card. If it says offline, the server is probably restarting. Wait a few minutes and try again.
  2. Make sure the address is exactly right. Use the copy button so there are no typos or extra spaces. Remember, the Minecraft address isn't the website address.
  3. Check your internet. School and work networks sometimes block Minecraft servers.
  4. Still stuck after a while? Tell an admin. The server might need a poke.
Game crashes or freezes while loadingLauncher shows an error like “exit code 1”, or the loading screen never finishes
  1. The first modded launch is slow. Give it up to 5 minutes before deciding it's frozen.
  2. Make sure the mods folder only has the modpack's .jar files, with no duplicates and no leftovers from other packs.
  3. Give Minecraft more memory (the “Recommended” tip in step 4 of the guide).
  4. Still crashing? Send an admin the newest file from the crash-reports folder, or latest.log from the logs folder. Both are inside your Minecraft folder.
The NeoForge installer won't openIt opens as a zip file, nothing happens, or your Mac blocks it
  1. Your computer probably needs Java 21. Install Temurin 21 from adoptium.net, then try again.
  2. On Windows, right-click the installer → Open with → OpenJDK Platform binary.
  3. On a Mac, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click Open Anyway.
  4. Step 3 of the install guide has the full details for each computer.
The game is super laggyLow FPS, stuttering, or the computer fan sounds like a jet engine
  1. Turn off shaders: press K in game.
  2. Turn off the HD resource packs (Default HD 128x and Patrix 32x).
  3. Lower Render Distance to around 8 in Options… → Video Settings…
  4. Close other programs, especially browsers with lots of tabs.
Playing on console, phone, or BedrockXbox, PlayStation, Switch, iPhone, Android, or the Windows Bedrock version

This server is Java Edition only because it uses mods. You'll need Minecraft Java Edition on a Windows PC or Mac.
